Sarmiento Petrified Forest
The City of Comodoro Rivadavia is the biggest in the Province of Chubut. It is 1900 km. away from Buenos Aires, the Capital of Argentina. From there, one can access by land to the Petrified Forest José Orrmanechea (nearby the city of Sarmiento).
The landscape is magnificent along both circuits, the first one is a 45 minute walk, and the second one lasts approximately 3 hours. Along the way you will discover the petrified tree trunks that belong to the Tertiary Period, 65 million years ago. During the journey, the landscape features the past of Patagonia with vestiges of a warm weather vegetation that has adapted to the current semi-arid climate. Prepare yourself to enjoy the authentic Patagonian steppe scenery.
